Volle Kraft voraus – mit Jesus Christus!

On June 23, 2024, the St. Chrischona Theological Seminary (tsc) sent 23 graduates off after successfully completing their studies. During a service attended by approximately 300 people, the tsc offered them many encouraging words for their future paths—above all, the advice to trust in God’s guidance.

Trust the helmsman

In her sermon, lecturer Kristina Imwalle used the image of a rowboat: All rowers sit with their backs to the direction of travel, and only the coxswain has a view of the course. «The rowers must learn to trust the coxswain to steer well and set the right pace,» said Kristina Imwalle. It’s the same with God. Based on two Bible verses from Proverbs 3:5-6 and Psalm 25:5, she explained that God wants to guide us and smooth the paths. Both verses speak of God’s faithfulness and trust in him.

The graduates were advisedKristina Imwalleto do nothing without God. «We must not imagine that our talents are sufficient to make our ministry fruitful. Only together with Jesus Christ can we bear lasting fruit,» said the lecturer.

«Nothing works without him,
whether you have a lot or a little.
So you’re allowed to sweat sometimes,
but you just have to sit down for a bit afterward.
And catch your breath with him,
drink in his word like a good soda.
It takes rhythm, trust.
Full speed ahead, let’s look to him!»

«Rich backpack with a lot of knowledge and experience»

Rector Dr. Benedikt Walker reflected on the years of study. He expressed his delight that the graduates are taking with them a «rich backpack of theological knowledge, but also life experiences.» Most of them begin service in Christian congregations, ministries, or missionary organizations after completing their studies.

Personally and spiritually mature

Depending on their program and study structure, the graduates studied at the tsc for between one and seven years. During this time, the young people matured personally and spiritually. Marc Burger, who completed the bachelor’s program in Theology & Music, reported: «God taught me to be patient with myself, to better understand my strengths and weaknesses, and to use them to the best of my ability to invest myself in His kingdom and to serve people with my music.»

A musical broadcast weekend

The commencement service was the highlight of a weekend with which the tsc celebrated the sending off of its graduates. Music played a major role. The program’s bands performedTheology & Musicin official exams, what they had learned and rehearsed. Songs from the TSC choir and ensembles were performed at a concert. In addition, TSC singer-songwriters performed some of their own compositions. A new music video by the «TSC Collective» premiered. Graduate Hannah Renz interpreted Paul Gerhardt’s poem «Ich danke dir mit Freuden» (I thank you with joy) as an appealing, modern song of praise with timelessly hopeful lyrics. It is on theTSC YouTube channellisten.
