Aufbruch ins Theologiestudium

St. Chrischona Theological Seminary (TSC) has had a good start to the 2024/25 academic year with 36 new students. This is approximately ten percent more than the previous year. In addition, there are 19 new guest students. At the start of the program, two brothers from the Christ-Bearers offered helpful tips for a successful spiritual life.

75 percent of new students come from the profession

Who are the new students at the TSC? In 2024, around half of them will come from Switzerland and the other half from Germany. Chinese, Nigerian, and Liechtenstein nationalities are also represented. 75 percent of the new students were employed before their studies, for example as bank clerks or lawyers. The remaining quarter come directly from school with a high school diploma or Matura. The congregational associations from which the new students come include Viva Church Switzerland, FEG Switzerland, FEG Germany, the Salvation Army, and the Evangelical Community Work. «These statistics confirm our long-term trends and the importance of partners inTSC network», says Rector Dr. Benedikt Walker.

Tips for spiritual life

Before the start of their studies, the newly formed study group got to know each other better during the opening days and were spiritually prepared for the new academic year. Because the TSC places great emphasis on holistic theological education, it invited Brother Thomas and Brother Sven from the Christ-Bearers to speak. They shared suggestions for a successful spiritual life. They spoke very openly and personally about the opportunities and challenges of their communal life. They also presented helpful practical exercises, such as liturgical prayers or a particularly slow Bible reading, in which each word is read individually. Their tips from the monastic tradition were received with great interest by the study group.

Personnel changes in the teaching staff

Also newly launched for the 2024/25 academic year isPeter Schneebergeras a lecturer in practical theology. The president of the umbrella organization Freikirchen.ch teaches leadership skills, leadership, and coaching. His 50 percent teaching position is funded by the FEG Switzerland. The lecturer position, funded by the VFMG, is now held by Corina Frank. She has previously served as a guest lecturer in distance learning and, in addition to the online Greek course, also teaches the introduction to Protestant theology and spirituality.

There was a handover of the baton in the office of Deputy Rector: Claudius Buser has reduced his workload and handed over this office after many meritorious years toDr. Dr. Beat SchweitzerThe head of the Communicative Theology program will, as the new Deputy Rector, support the Rector even more closely than before.

«I want to develop a solid theological foundation during my studies so that I can contribute to church work.»
